The Camper's Triad
The Camper's Triad, "HAI",
is a timeless
gem handed down through the ages from camper to camper consisting of three
things all camper's should remember to make the most out of their camping
experience. HAI stands for Hydration, Adverse weather
conditions, and Insects.
HYDRATION - is one of the
most important things to consider and prepare for whenever you expect to be
active. Your body depends on water for all of its functions. Check
out these links for great recommendations on staying
hydrated while at camp and what
you can do to plan ahead.
ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS
- Being a summer camp, we are concerned with Heat, Sun, and Rain.
Cool clothing with light colors are definitely in order for camp. Hats,
visors and sunglasses are all good ways to deal with the sun's radiation, but
Sun Block is a must! Rain ponchos or some type of rain gear tucked away
in a backpack is the best way to prevent a rain storm..... and if one should
occur, well then, you're ready for it (umbrellas should be left at home
because they are easily forgotten and look too much like a sword to the
imaginative mind). When in doubt about the weather conditions at
camp, check out the weather link in the left-hand column.
INSECTS - Are one of the
most unsuspecting causes of an unpleasant camp experience.... so small, and
yet so annoying. Our camp has three main types of insects to be aware
of: ticks, mosquitoes and bees. Ticks (almost exclusively Wood
Ticks) can be found in the tall grasses of the fields and trails.
Wearing light colored clothing allows one to see ticks that may have gotten on
you, and repellents containing permethrin can be sprayed on shoes and clothing
(used in this way, it can be protective for several days). Nightly
"tick checks" are a good idea for all campers. Several types
of repellants (some even combined with sun block) can be used for
mosquitoes. Resident Campers may want to also bring long pants and head
netting for outdoor evening activities. Bees are plentiful in the
northern-most field of camp. Avoidance of areas where bees are heavily
concentrated is the best way to avoid unwanted stings.
The Route to Camp is clear, it runs
through your heart and soul my dear. The walls you re-built over the last year, will
come crashing down, don't you fear. For Friends, yes Friends, await you
here with smiles, laughter and maybe a happy tear.

ATTENTION!!!
We need YOU for our 2008 Camp!! Camp Chosôn is dependent on
volunteer support throughout the year. Think seriously about becoming one of our key volunteers
that coordinate a part of the whole experience. Some of these jobs need
to be done year-round while others can be done shortly before or at
Camp. Please check out our current Volunteer
Needs for 2008. If you have the ability to donate your time and
talents to any of these positions, please contact our Board
President or our Volunteer
Coordinator.
Sponsors and Donors to our Camp. Please
see our Contact Information Page for
information on how to become one of our Sponsors/Donors and be listed on this
website (tasteful advertising is available on this site for our
Benefactors).... Thanks!
STAYING INFORMED
Camp Chosôn has a general
listserv for all our families interested in receiving the most current
camp information via e-mail. To sign up, send an e-mail to our listserv
at the following link: Camp
Chosôn Listserv. Please note: the listserv does not replace
other forms of camp communication, but serves to augment communication methods
already in place. Notifications regarding registration materials and

in a timely fashion, and all information distributed by the Board will still
be posted on this website should you prefer to not sign-up.
If you wish to attend our next Board

CAMP BASICS
Camp Chosôn is an annual, week-long, Korean
culture camp primarily serving MN and WI, specifically designed for adopted Korean-American children, their
families and friends. Camp Chosôn convenes at a location every year in or
near the beautiful St. Croix River Valley and is typically held close to the Fourth of July week.
Our venue is
currently Camp Rolling Ridges, a Girl Scout Camp, in northeast Hudson. We
have developed a
strong working relationship with the Girl Scouts that is mutually beneficial
to both of our organizations. Registration information
and all other necessary forms will be available for downloading on this
website.
Camp
Rolling Ridges is located on 550 picturesque
acres in northeast Hudson, Wisconsin. We searched high and low for a new
home to hold camp in 2004, and were pleased with the many attributes this
facility offered as well as its potential for future development. Now
with two successful years at this new venue, it has become our preferred
venue. To see and learn more about our
venue, click on

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Our history dates back to 1993, when a core
group of parents looking for a way to expose their children to Korean culture
found such opportunities to be in short supply for their families. These
visionary parents started what is now a Korean culture camp that has serviced
more than 1000 children, helping them to find their roots in Korean traditions
while blending in their American upbringing. Camp Chosôn is a place
where the physical being is not in conflict with the inner spirit.
Social interactions, culture classes and group physical activities build
self-esteem and promote a sense of belonging...... to family, to friends, to
humanity. Our campers establish many new friendships based on
self-esteem and mutual respect, while taking their family relationships to a
new level of awareness; one that strengthens the family bonds as peace for the
inner spirit becomes possible. Siblings of any ancestral origin are
encouraged to attend and share the enriching experience. Special
programs are offered for parents during the day making it truly an experience
for the whole family.
If you're looking for a Korean culture camp to attend, you
can't find one better than ours. We invite you to browse through our
pages and see what we're all about. Then come and discover with us the
richness of Korean culture, dive into the depths of enlightenment, share the
peace of discovery and experience the love of family.
