2025 Camp Choson Day Camp Counselor

Counselor Requirements: All volunteers over 18 years of age need to agree to a background check in order to participate at Camp Choson. The qualified counselor is a positive role model of Korean heritage who can supervise and build positive relationships with campers. We accept Day Camp Counselors as young as the mid-teens. All counselors will need to attend a training session on Sunday, June 29th. There can be no exceptions. Counselors are responsible for rides to and from camp during the week of June 29th - July 4th.

Group Assignments & Expectations: Day camper groups range from Kindergarten – 6th grade. Counselors are expected to help their campers adjust, feel safe, and have a good time. Be prepared to help younger campers engage with the classes, carrying backpacks, counting money at the store, and working through separation from parents. All counselors – be prepared to participate in sessions and opening/closing ceremonies. Counselors are also expected to help with Achim Moim. Overall, the role of a day camp counselor includes the following responsibilities:

1. Maintain absolute safety and supervision of your campers at all times.

2. Develop a nurturing relationship with each and every camper in your group.

3. Help facilitate growth of campers’ self esteem, teamwork skills, and cultural identity exploration.

4. Act as a role model for appropriate sharing and decision-making.

5. Respect the campers’ individuality by NEVER criticizing, shaming, or imposing your own values.

6. Work with other day camp counselors to lead and facilitate camp activities.

Time Commitment: In order to provide the campers with consistency, we prefer to have camp counselors who can commit to the full six days; Sunday training from 12PM - 4PM (lunch provided) and Day Camp is Monday - Friday, 8:30AM - 4:30PM. In some cases, we will accommodate an exception.

NOTE: This year we are unable to host day camp counselors onsite.
